Land Area: 38,250 Square Miles (Size of Tennessee)
Population: 4.5 Million

Government: Republic.  Declared independent in 1847
Geography: Sandy beaches along the coast, shallow lagoons, tdal creeks and mangrove swamps, plateaus, dense forests, mountain regions.
Weather: Hot, tropical climate.  The rainy season is from May to October. The dry season is from December to March
Primary Exports: Diamonds, rubber, iron ore, timber, and gold.
Currency: U.S. Dollar.  Liberia is a cash economy.
Security: Stable Democracy with 12-years of peace
Language: Official language is English.  However, most people speak Liberian English. The main local dialects are Bassa, Gio, Kpelleh, Kru, Lorma and Mano.
Religion: Religion: Majority Christian, with a significant Muslim and traditional beliefs exist throughout the country.
Culture: Liberians are friendly, talkative and gregarious. The Liberian handshake is a hand shake followed by a finger snap.  Liberians take pride in their local customs and will appreciate the gesture. Most Liberian interactions, from the casual to the business, ends with exchange of business cards – please be prepared to bring enough cards to share.
Tourism: Liberia has 570km of Atlantic coastline with beautiful beaches.  Lake Piso, an open coastal lagoon west of Monrovia has been designated a Wetland of international importance.  Sea Turtles and shore birds.  Liberia’s forest includes the Sapo National Forest and harbors some 2,000 variety of flowering plants, 125 species of mammals, 590 species of birds, 74 species of reptiles and amphibians. Notable fauna includes the forest elephant, the pygmy hippo, Zebras and the Liberian mongoose.
