Project Fistula Liberia
The Honorary Consul General In collaboration with the Atlanta West End Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Monrovia, and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter have teamed-up to provide resources and support to women in Liberia who suffer from fistula.  Fistula is a severe medical condition that occurs when there is an abnormal opening between two organs of the body, most commonly caused by injury sustained during child birth (obstructed labor), rape, coital injury, ritual cleansing, and sexually transmitted diseases.  It became clear that we needed a call to action to help our sisters on the other side of the water – to help bring dignity back to their lives. Under the leadership of the Honorary Consul General and Yamin Faharit, the West End Club’s Foundation Chair, a $30,000 grant was submitted to Rotary International’s Vision Grant to fund a water tower, washing stations, latrines, and medical supplies.
